The Dangerous Baker

September 29 1612 – 13 Tishrei 5373

Vincenz Fettmilch, head of the bakers’ guild in Frankfurt and sometimes known as the Jews’ new Haman,  attacked the synagogue at the head of a mob, forcing the Jews who’d taken shelter within to flee into the nearby cemetery and then driving them out of town. Three years later, Fettmilch was beheaded – but for harming Christians, not Jews.
