Jacob ben Asher’s Arba’a Turim rolled off the presses at Meshullam Cusi and sons’ Hebrew press in Piove di Sacco, near Padua. This seminal legal code was the press’ first book. Shortly after the invention of the printing press in Europe, Italy already boasted several Hebrew publishing houses – and an upsurge in works written by Jews.
