The New York Stock & Exchange Board was founded under a buttonwood tree, outside 68 Wall Street New York. The Buttonwood Agreement was signed by twenty-four stockbrokers to regulate trading of securities between themselves. Five of them were Jews, including Benjamin Seixas, whose brother Gershom was the first Jewish religious leader (he served as a cantor and preacher in New York) born and raised in America.
