Pharmacist John Pemberton sold a soft drink concoction he dubbed Coca Cola in the pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia where he worked. The small family company he founded expanded – after he sold it – to become a leading international firm. Kosher certification became an issue in the 1930s, when the company agreed to reveal its secret formula to Rabbi Tuvia Gefen of Atlanta, and even adapted the recipe, replacing two items to make Coca Cola kosher year round, including Pesach.
