premiered. Other biblically inspired works by the German-born English
composer include the oratorios Esther, Deborah, Athalia, Samson, Judas
Maccabaeus, Joshua, and Solomon and Jeptha, as well as the British
anthem Zadok the Priest, recounting young Solomon’s anointment by the
this high priest. Zadok has been played at the coronation of every British
monarch since George II, including the recently crowned Charles III.
