Hundreds of Jews were slaughtered in Palma, on the island of Majorca. The mobs had been incited by a monk named Ferrand Martinez, father-confessor to the queen mother, Leonora. In 1391, riots raged throughout Castile and Aragon and Jewish communities all over the Spanish Peninsula were forced to choose between conversion or death. The Jews of Palma were merely the last in line.
