The Italian air force bombarded Tel Aviv as part of the Axis war effort against the British, then ruling Palestine. Haifa had already been bombed twice, but this was the most severe attack of the war, killing 130 civilians and causing considerable damage. Neither the Italians nor the Germans took responsibility for the attack, like most of the war crimes they committed against the Jewish people during the Holocaust.
