July 1 69 – 23 Tammuz 3829
Alexandria
Tiberius Julius Alexander and his troops became the first Romans to back Vespasian in his struggle to replace Nero as Roman emperor. The son of a phenomenally wealthy Jewish family from Alexandria, Tiberius had risen through the Roman legions until the emperor Claudius appointed him Procurator of Judea from 46 to 48 CE. Nero then promoted him to governor of Egypt, where he infamously slew fifty thousand Jews while quelling a Jewish revolt in his hometown in 66 CE. Shortly afterward, with Tiberius’ help, Vespasian’s son Titus finally overtook Jerusalem and destroyed Judea for his father, the emperor.
