Servius Sulpicius Galba was killed by the Praetorian Guard in the Roman Forum. During this year of chaos he was followed on the throne in quick succession by Otho, Vitellius, and finally Vespasian who returned to Rome from Judea to claim the imperial orb. The ruthlessness which Titus showed in suppressing the Judean Revolt was Vespasian’s way of showing the leaders of Rome that he would be a strong and powerful Emperor and that when he died there would be no outbreak of violence over the succession because his son was cut from the same cloth.
