June 23 79 – 4 Tammuz 3839

Roman emperor Vespasian died. A former general, Vespasian took office during his conquest of Judea, bringing Rome’s civil war of 69 CE to an end. His first task as emperor was to restore his subjects’ fortunes and restart the Roman economy. Vespasian was succeeded by his son Titus, who’d completed what his father began in Judea with the destruction of Jerusalem, including the Temple.
